Soft ground tunneling projects present risks and challenges which require expertise and experience to meet and overcome them successfully. Our tunneling team has extensive experience in evaluating and engineering solutions to overcome the difficulties presented by a wide range of soils and groundwater conditions.

Our experience is focused on tunnels up to 4 meters diameter. We provide feasibility studies and advice including site investigation protocols, route planning, tunnel design, method and equipment decisions, shaft and temporary works design, specifications and contract documents, bid evaluation, works supervision and Quality Assurance audit and monitoring protocols as well as tunnel construction data evaluation.

The range of tunneling techniques for which we can provide these services includes open shield hand and mechanical excavation, balance excavation (slurry and EPB tunneling) utilizing pipe jacking, concrete segmental linings, liner plate or rib & lag to line the tunnel. Shaft design may be permanent or temporary and by diaphragm wall, caisson or cofferdam, sheet pile or other methods.

Jason has extensive experience in the initial selection of tunneling technique(s) for a specific project, preparation of specifications and the subsequent monitoring and management of the tunneled project construction.
