GAS INDUSTRY PROJECTS

These are examples of gas industry projects that are not conventional engineering consultancy in terms of rehabilitation planning and execution, but illustrate the breadth of coverage of our experience in gas distribution.

GAZ DE FRANCE, PARIS

We undertook a review of gas distribution operations and maintenance practice in 6 European countries to enable GdF to identify best practice and to modify its own operations where necessary. This study included review of materials used, repair and rehabilitation technologies, PE pipe jointing practice, asset management and planning, and innovation and new technology.

GAS TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTE, CHICAGO, USA

Jason Consultants undertook a four-year technology transfer project for GTI. The purpose of the project was to identify new and innovative technologies in gas distribution operations and maintenance around the world that could be introduced into the US industry to reduce costs and improve efficiency and safety. In total more than 50 technologies were reviewed, mainly from Europe but also from Japan and Australia, and several are now being introduced into the US market with selected gas companies.

PE100+ ASSOCIATION, NETHERLANDS

The Association is a promotional organisation established by the 5 European manufacturers of PE100 pipe grade resin. Jason Consultants developed Guidelines for the use of PE pipe in pressure distribution applications which comprises comprehensive Position Papers on over 50 topics. This is available through the Association’s website. The Position Papers cover materials, products, assembly, installation, safety, commissioning, environmental impact, and operation and maintenance of PE pipe networks.

CONSOLIDATED EDISON OF NEW YORK INC., USA

We undertook a detailed technical review of alternatives to PE for use in gas distribution in locations close to district heating and steam pipes, where elevated temperatures pose a risk to the safety of conventional PE. Cross-linked PE (PEX) and polyamide (nylon) were investigated and their potential applications evaluated and presented to the client.
