SEMINARS/WEBINARS Jason Consultants is active in the education and training arena for all forms of trenchless technology, and conducts several series of seminars designed to train and educate practicing professional engineers so that they are abreast of the latest developments and innovations in the specific fields in which we have experience. Our seminars combine our extensive international engineering and practical experience with a well developed, coherent and systematic training approach. Each is prepared and the course conducted by a senior, and highly experienced, member of the Jason team specialising in the subject(s) being presented and discussed. Case studies and extensive course note materials are an integral part of the courses. These highly successful courses have been developed to cover the full scope of the subject in question from basic concepts through to implementation and risk management, for example:
Under the American Society of Civil Engineers Continuing Education program, David Abbott of Jason Consultants is the instructor for two separate seminars for ASCE covering the subject of tunneling and microtunnelling: “Introduction to the Design & Construction of Tunnels” is a three day program that covers all forms of tunneling in a coherent and systematic approach. “Design & Construction of Microtunneling Projects” is also a three day seminar, similar to the above but focused specifically on microtunnelling and pipejacking technologies and their application. Under same program, Dr. Dec Downey conducts the two-day seminar “Pipe and Pipeline Renewal” The ASCE Report Card released in 2005 gave the aging US underground infrastructure a grade of D-. Over $4 billion is expected to be spent on rehabilitation of the deteriorating water and wastewater infrastructure each year, and although this is a large sum it is still not enough. This seminar will provide a global perspective on the social impacts of urban infrastructure construction, state of the art in inspection and assessment technologies, new construction and rehabilitation methodologies, specifications, design procedures and quality control measures all linked to rehabilitation of the underground infrastructure. Upcoming dates and locations for all these seminars can be found at www.asce.org/conted/seminars/. The American Water Works Association (AWWA) seminar on “Distribution Rehabilitation” conducted by Robert Morrison of Jason Consultants and Millard (Sandy) Robinson of Malcolm Pirnie. The program covers buried infrastructure, regulations affecting water distribution, inspection and assessment technologies, rehabilitation methods and infrastructure strategies. Data management and Decision Support Models are also covered, as well as a section on funding and gaining public support. Further information on this seminar, including an outline of its content, can be found on AWWA’s website, www.awwa.org/education/seminars/. In addition we frequently conduct seminars for individual clients requiring in-house training for a large team of staff, and as modules within university programs. Examples include:
